Line forms for care at free dental clinic

The line for free dental care began to form last night at 9:30, nearly 10 hours before the doors were to open today at Papillion-LaVista South High School free dental clinic.

By the time the clinic closes on Saturday, more than 1,000 patients are expected to be served.

Stephen Scott of North Loup, Neb., was among those who camped out overnight to be among the first in line today. He and his wife slept in their car.

“I (wanted) to be ahead of the game,” he said.

He said neither he nor his wife has dental insurance. He had his teeth cleaned and his wife needed a root canal, a procedure that at a private office could have cost the couple $600 to $800 out of pocket.

Free Dental Clinics: Hundreds Expected At Free Dental Checkups

OMAHA, Neb. — A Nebraska dental organization hopes to treat 1,000 people for free Friday and Saturday.

National estimates show that about one-third of Americans do not have dental insurance. The statistic is the driving force behind the Mission of Mercy free checkups at Papillion South High School free dental clinic.

The program is in its fifth year and is sponsored by the Nebraska Dental Association. Lines are expected early as dentists will be offering everything from free cleanings to free root canals. Dentists’ time and equipment is all donated for the mission.

Treatments began Friday at 7 a.m. Both children and adults are welcome.
