Ministry’s clinic produces smiles

Benjamin Cecil made the trek to a Greensboro church on Saturday in an effort to get some relief.

He was one of about 85 people to get free dental work from volunteer dental professionals at Guilford Baptist Church on Saturday.

The Smile Generation Builds a Playground and Performs $80,000 in Donated Dentistry

The playground was only one component of what the Smile Generation was doing. The Smile Generation set up an onsite dental clinic and in only seven hours of operation provided members of the community with $80,000 worth of donated dental services. “What an amazing event! Over 180 Pacific Dental Services / Smile Generation Team members from 5 states gathered on Saturday to build a playground and provide free dental services to over 100 people in the community including the women and children sheltered at Colette’s.

Annual events provide free dental care for the uninsured

Individuals who do not have insurance may find it difficult to pay for dental care. For those who are in need of treatment, some organizations are providing these services for free.

For example, the Greater Portland Dental Society in Maine recently treated patients for the second year in a row, free of charge, the Portland Press Herald reports. More than 120 dental professionals volunteered their time at the Dunstan Dental Center in Scarborough to provide the services.

Tahoe Family Solutions offers free dental screening

Children aged 6 months to 12 years who are unable to afford dental care are eligible to attend the Tahoe Family Solutions — formerly The Children’s Cabinet — free dental screening at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20. Dr. Atty Smith will examine each child and children in need will be referred for low cost treatment.

Dental clinic lines closed for today

UPDATE: Officials from the Mission of Mercy announced just after 9 a.m. today that the patient line for today’s free dental clinic at the U.S. Cellular Center has been closed for today due to “overwhelming” response.

“When the clinic open this morning at 7 a.m. there were more than 800 people from across the state already waiting in line,” said a Mission of Mercy news release. “We estimate close to 1,000 people will be treated today. After the clinic closes at 5 p.m., the line may begin forming for tomorrow.”
