Free Dental Clinics and Services for Uninsured

Counties help uninsured and underinsured get health and dental care

April Henne came to the dental clinic at the Saginaw Public Health Center when she was a child. Now she brings her kids. The clinic serves uninsured kids in Saginaw County. The cost: a donation.

“I don’t have really good insurance to go just anywhere, but even if I did I would want to come here because of the quality of care,” Henne says.

The dental clinic is a unique program. The Saginaw Public Health Center and Saginaw Department of Public Health also offer numerous services you can find at most county health departments.

Due to demand, Care Free Dental Clinic plans to expand

ESCANABA – Due to overwhelming demand, St. Vincent de Paul has committed to redesign and build an addition to their Escanaba service center that houses the Care Free Dental Clinic. The project, estimated at $60,000, will be funded by private donations with a fund-raising drive, “Saving Smiles, Building Dreams,” to begin immediately. The mission of this non-profit organization is to provide free dental health care for uninsured, homeless and low-income residents of Delta County.

“Since its inception, the Care Free Clinic has served (more than) 1,200 patients and donated well over $350,000 in free dentistry,” said Ken Gartland, chairman of the “Saving Smiles, Building Dreams” Campaign. “It’s apparent the need is getting greater and we’ve simply outgrown the current facility.”
