ayette CARE Clinic, which provides free medical and dental care to uninsured local residents, has seen a surge in demand for its services with the weakening economy.
Each day the clinic is open, about six potential new patients come by. That used to be a whole week’s worth of new patients when the clinic first opened three years ago, said clinic director Sheryl Watford.

Good dental care really does matter for kids
Good oral health is critical for everyone regardless of age. Tooth decay is the single most common chronic disease in children and is reaching epidemic proportions. It also is progressive and won’t heal without treatment. Even more seriously, the mouth is a major pathway into the body, so disease originating in the mouth can infect other areas of the body.
Yolo County children ages 0 to 5 can get free dental screenings and varnish compliments of the Smile Savers’ Program held at CommuniCare Saturday Dental Clinics. These clinics are scheduled throughout the year in various Yolo County locations. Smile Savers is sponsored by First 5 Yolo along with CommuniCare Health Centers. What Your Body Is Telling You
The mouth provides another window into overall health. That’s what inspired New York University’s College of Dentistry to team up with its College of Nursing to check patients at the university’s free dental clinic for other health-related issues. More than 60% of the patients referred from the dental clinic met the criteria for hypertension, and 30% had diabetes or pre-diabetes. “The tooth pain brings them in. Diabetes and hypertension are often silent diseases,” says Edwidge Thomas, the nursing school’s director of clinical practice affairs.

Free dental clinic set for June 26-27 in La Crosse; 1,200 patients expected
Organizers say the focus of next weekend’s free dental clinic in La Crosse is to get people out of pain. It will be like a MASH unit at the Mission of Mercy Friday and Saturday.
Around 1,000 volunteers will provide free dental care to an estimated 1,200 people. Treatment offered will include cleanings, fillings, extractions and some denture work.

Operation Lone Star brings free health, dental care
Free health and dental care is coming to the Rio Grande Valley. It’s all courtesy of Operation Lone Star.
It’s an annual effort by the Texas military units. The group goes into local communities to provide free medical services to the thousands who do not have health insurance.
Operation Lone Star will run from July 28th through August 8th.
