Many people choose to pay a visit to the dentist’s only after the cavities have already appeared and they are causing pain.

Also, the mainstream opinion is that cavities are quite difficult to prevent properly, and the best there is to do is to visit the dentist when the cavities have appeared and get proper treatment, such as fillings.

Innovation in the field of science is happening at every step, and device called DIAGNOdent claims that it is possible to find caries in their very early stage, before much actual damage is done to the tooth.

The traditional way to find cavities is usually done by dentists with the help of a dental explorer, or dental pick (the device which is made of metal and has the shape of a hook), or sometimes they also use the x-rays in order to check for internal damages in the tooth.

But most often, a cavity can be discovered when it is quite large and it can be detected with an eye and dental explorer. Then, the patient gets proper treatment which includes dental cleaning and fillings.

The DIAGNOdent producers say that thanks to a recent innovation in the field of medical dental devices, dental explorers are no more needed in order to find a cavity. Plus, the cavity can be detected at an early state.

New cavity detection device is using a light wave system which basically examines the fluorescence levels that are being reflected by the tooth. The device is able to point out the level of damage in a tooth based on a numeric scale (depending on how high or how low the fluorescence levels are).

Thus, by using this device, dental professionals will be able to identify an affected tooth much earlier, and of course decide upon the treatment. The device has a tube which will be put on the tooth to be examined, and the dentist will slightly move it, in order for the device to take the readings.

With the help of such a tool, patients will be able to avoid extremely expensive dental treatments, since the problem can be prevented in an early stage.
