Independence to host free dental clinic

Organizers expect the ninth Kansas Mission of Mercy this weekend to show no slowdown in need, despite already providing 16,300 patients with $7.4 million in donated care at eight earlier giant dental clinics.

The Mission of Mercy is an annual two-day event at which 1,800 to 2,000 people are expected to get free dental care on a first-come, first-served basis.

Simi clinic to host ‘meet and greet’ fundraiser

More than 39 years after the Free Clinic of Simi Valley hosted its first “meet and greet” event, the nonprofit organization is hosting another to garner support and hopefully close its funding gap.

The clinic, which opened in 1971, is struggling to provide medical and dental services to a clientele growing at an average rate of 10 percent per year while funding is flat.

NHS to bring in charges for orthodontic treatment

A new plan to charge for orthodontic treatment in Northern Ireland has been branded a “tax on children’s smiles”.

Children who require orthodontic treatment will soon have to meet strict new criteria to qualify for the treatment on the NHS under new government guidelines, the Belfast Telegraph can reveal.

According to the British Dental Association (BDA), the overhaul of the current system — under which NHS orthodontic treatment is free — will mean all but the more severe cases will have to pay for their care.

Community Health Fair to offer free dental screenings and medical services

BlueWaveNJ Public Interest Foundation (BWPIF) will hold its first Community Health Fair on April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 13 Trinity Place. The fair is open to the public and all services are free. Participants must sign up prior to the event.

The fair will offer health services including screenings for HIV/STD, blood pressure, and glucose, and radiological services including X-ray, ultrasound, and EKG. There will also be an opportunity for eligible people to sign up for food stamps and Medicaid. In addition to the screenings, the day’s medical services will include physical examinations, dental checkups, podiatry care, chiropractic care, and homeopathic and holistic therapy.

Dental office to offer day of free care

Lalor Creekside Dental will join with non-profit Dentistry from the Heart May 8 to provide a day of free dental care for those in need. The doctors and staff will offer one cleaning, filling or extraction free of charge to a minimum of 200 people.

The event will take place at Lalor Creekside Dental at 2521 Vestal Parkway West in Vestal. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and patients will be seen on a first come, first serve basis.

Medical mission provides free health and dental services for Hickman County residents

More than 100 volunteers, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists will provide free checkups for Hickman County residents who don’t have health insurance.

Dozens of workers from Hickman Community Hospital, Saint Thomas Hospital, Baptist Hospital and Middle Tennessee Medical Center, will provide free medical, dental and optical checkups, along with pharmacy services to Hickman County residents most in need.

The free services will be provided at the National Guard Armory, 150 Universal Drive, Centerville on April 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Doctors return from helping in Haiti

Reaching out to the people of Haiti is nothing new to Dr. Robert Antolak, a Shelby Township physician known as “The Gentle Dentist.” He’s traveled to Haiti annually for the past nine years, where he offers free dental care and donated Halloween candy.
