Dentists to Provide Free Dental Work for Kids

Hundreds of children spent time on Friday in the chair saying “ahh” as local dentists, hygienists and students tried to take a bite out of a growing problem of not enough tooth and gum care for many young people. Friday was the 8th annual Give Kids a Smile Day from the American Dental Association. Free dental care was provided for more than 320,000 uninsured children between the ages of 3 and 12 nation wide.

Dentists Team Up for Free Dental Care

Dentists from across mid-Michigan team up with LCC students to brighten dozens of smiles absolutely free. It’s all part of the national give kids a smile day. The program is about more than just free dental care. For some kids, sitting in the dentist chair can be a scary experience, but for families who can’t afford health care in this bleak economy. It’s the cost that is the most frightening.

Dental center ahead of free dental clinic

KSDK — St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay toured the “Give Kids A Smile” exhibit at the Center for Advanced Dental Education on Friday ahead of a free dental clinic for local children.

Over a two-day period Friday and Saturday, more than 600 underserved children are expected at the Center for Advanced Dental Education at St. Louis University to receive comprehensive dental services for free. A majority of the children who visit the clinic are recommended through local schools, churches and not-for-profit organizations.

All children visiting the free clinic will receive x-rays, professional cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants, as well as restorations, endodontics and oral surgery as needed.

St. Charles dentist helps Lazarus House

St. Charles, IL — In observance of National Children’s Dental Health Month, a St. Charles dentist and his staff will volunteer free dental services for guests of Lazarus House, a shelter for Kane County residents offering food and case management services to the homeless and poor.

Keven Arnold’s office will provide free cleanings, x-rays, exams, fillings and extractions to individuals in need from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.2/10

Free Dental Care for kids

About 1,200 kids from across Western New York who don’t have access to dental care get a free dental exam, fluoride treatment, X-rays, sealant and oral hygiene instruction from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine’s ninth annual “Give Kids a Smile” day. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown will deliver another proclamation and encourage anyone who currently doesn’t have a dentist to go to the UB dental school.

45 Children Receive Free Dental Care

AMES, Iowa — An Ames dental office took part Friday in the national “Give Kids a Smile” campaign.

Employees with Dentistry at Somerset volunteered their time to clean, examine and provide necessary dental care to low-income children in Story County.

The effort treated 45 children on Friday, a $20,000 donation of time and services.

Free Dental Care Offered To Kids

SAN ANTONIO — It’s a not a trip many look forward to, but it is necessary. Unfortunately, many families don’t have the means to take children to the dentist.

On Friday morning, some area children that have been deprived of dental care received much needed help as part of Give Kids a Smile day. The event, held at the Ricardo Salinas Clinic, on the city’s West side, provided care for more than 70 children.

Robert Wood Johnson gives free dental care to uninsured children

SAN YSIDRO — The San Ysidro Health Center is offering free dental service to children under age 6 and pregnant women at its clinics in southeastern San Diego, National City and San Ysidro.

Children who have not started kindergarten are eligible, as are pregnant women who are uninsured or on Denti-Cal, and new mothers up to 90 days after they give birth.

Free dental work brightens kids’ smiles

The Georgia Dental Association’s “Give Kids a Smile Day” free dental clinic provided treatment or cleanings to 160 children ages 3 to 18 on Friday. Another 100 to 120 children who could not be seen were given forms to receive a free cleaning at Armstrong Atlantic State University’s Dental Health Clinic, said Dr. Stephanie Skinner.

Free dental care brings smiles to local children

Detroit — Dentists from across Metro Detroit helped give as many as 600 youngsters free dental care Saturday at the University of Detroit-Mercy Corktown campus.

About 100 dentists who belong to the Michigan Dental Association partnered with 300 fellow association members to perform work ranging from screenings and cleanings to pulling teeth for the youngsters who registered in advance. No walk-ins were accepted.

The association expects to perform $1 million of free dental work this year at various events such as this one, dubbed “Give Kids A Smile,” while also trying to raise awareness of child dental issues with elected officials, association members said.

Lining up for free dental work

Most of the people in the tent outside Smith Dental Care in Tyler on Friday night have pain because of problems with their teeth, and don’t have any insurance. The dentist office isn’t open, but it will be early Saturday morning.

The program they’re lined up for is called “Dentistry from the Heart.” Just about the time the sun comes up on Saturday, a small army of dentists, hygienists, staffers, and volunteers will open the doors, offering free care for patients. On a normal day, the office sees 30 to 50 patients. Saturday, they’ll see 350.

Donors help free dental clinic stay open

Even if they can’t afford to see a dentist, Frederick County residents will still be able to get free dental care, since Mission of Mercy’s clinics were saved from closing thanks to the generosity of donors.

The nonprofit healthcare organization which runs two free dental clinics in Frederick County, told The Gazette last week it was considering shutting down its free dental program due to lack of funding. But donors stepped up, and in less than two weeks contributed the $15,000 Mission of Mercy needed to save the program, which started in Maryland and Pennsylvania in 1994. Officials estimate it now serves more than 2,200 patients in Frederick County
