(WHAS11) Meijer and Colgate are teaming up to help kids brush up on dental hygiene.
The “Bright Smiles, Bright Futures” van, a customized dental van is offering free dental education, screenings and dental reports for kids 12 years of age and younger.
The Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program reaches millions of under-served children.
Mobile dental vans staffed by volunteer dentists, visit local communities throughout the U.S. in urban and rural areas.

Free dental clinic to provide treatment for uninsured
North Carolina Mission of Mercy sponsored a free dental clinic on the Outer Banks in October and some people slept in their cars for a place in line for aid.
Nancy Alexander of the MERCI Clinic said that with limited access to dental care in the state reaching epidemic proportions, MERCI and the N.C. Dental Society will assist in a similar two-day clinic in New Bern on Friday and Saturday. Area adults who don’t have health and dental insurance will be treated.

Free dental and medical clinic opens
A new free medical and dental clinic is open in West St. Augustine for uninsured and low-income St. Johns County residents after the community and organizations saw a need for more healthcare services in the area.
“We had a vision,” Debbie Honnen, president of Good Samaritan Health Centers Inc. said. “It was a group effort, a community effort.”
More than 50 people turned out for Saturday’s ribbon cutting ceremony at Wildflower Clinic, the only volunteer free dental and medical clinic in St. Johns County.

Minnesota Volunteer Dentists Scheduling Appointments For Free Dental Care For Needy Children In February
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 7 — Minnesota dentists will provide free dental care to less fortunate children on Friday, February 5 and Saturday, February 6 at nearly 200 locations statewide. The Minnesota Dental Association is sponsoring this unique outreach effort, called Give Kids a Smile, for the 8th consecutive year. Appointments are being scheduled now.
“We know that government funded programs for families have been dramatically cut. Volunteer dentists are trying to close the gap for the low income children who are not getting the dental care they need and deserve,” said Dr. Robert Templeton, president of the Minnesota Dental Association.

Free dental clinic will serve 100 children
Give Kids a Smile — the annual free dental clinic for children of families without Medicaid or dental insurance — returns to Alamance County next month.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Alamance County Children’s Dental Health Center at 1914 McKinney St., Burlington. Children must be registered for the event. Registration runs from Tuesday through Thursday. Parents and guardians should call 221-1267 between 10 a.m. and noon or 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to register.

Pediatric dentists to host free dental clinic in Toms River
TOMS RIVER: Ocean Pediatric Dental Associates will provide free preventive and emergency dental care for children younger than 12 with their “Give Kids A Smile” program on Feb. 5, dental staff said.
The event is part of the American Dental Association’s annual push to bring attention to the number one childhood disease, tooth decay.
