- they represent only 1.5% of dentists actively involved and contributing to anesthesia research
Authors of the study basically started researching the medical literature publishing, with the help of SI Web of Knowledge and reviews of Ovid Cochrane.
Their search was based on looking for articles that are related to anesthesia, and where the main keyword was “dentistry”.
They got as results a number of 3.709 articles, out of which a number of 377 articles have been authored or co-authored by anesthesiologists who work in the field of dentistry.
Although it is important to note that dental schools do not have recognized anesthesiology departments.
Moreover, it has been noted that the amount of research done by dentist anesthesiologists was actually not lower than the amount of research done by the other clinically oriented specialties which are acknowledged by the ADA (American Dental Association).
Thus, it is concluded that dental anesthesiologists bring a huge contribution to the field of medical research.
