As a back to school medical program, a West Valley clinic currently offers low cost dental check ups for children.

The future dental professionals of Midwestern University are trained so as to be allowed to practice dentistry on both adults and children.

Of course, these practices are all being supervised by professional dentists.

According to pediatric dentist Dr. Kimberly Patterson, the experienced dentists are helping Midwestern dental students making sure that the little ones get their check ups right before school starts.

These check ups are not free, but the clinic charges half the price parents would be paying at the private practices in the area.

In the case the patients cannot afford to pay even the reduced price, the clinic basically allows families to pay exactly as much as they can afford, based on their monthly income.

Besides checking for cavities and offering other kinds of basic treatments, the dental students also educate kids how to respect a proper dental care regimen, such as brushing and flossing regularly.

This educative part is extremely important, because unfortunately there are many parents out there who simply don’t realize how important a proper dental care is for the child.

According to Dr. Patterson, oral health complications in children are slowly becoming the number one medical reason for which kids miss school.

According to statistics, around 30% of the kids in the state have never gone through a dental check up.
