NIAGARA REGION, February 2, 2009 – Niagara Region Public Health will be hosting free dental health assessments at several Ontario Early Years Centres (OEYC) across Niagara.

Primary teeth or “baby teeth” are far more important to your child’s future dental health than you can imagine.

WHAT

A dental health assessment provided by dental hygienists from Niagara Region Public Health.

The assessment includes looking in the child’s mouth for possible decay and assessing the need for cleanings, fluoride, fluoride varnish, and dental sealants.

Children with urgent dental needs may qualify for financial assistance under the Children in Need of Treatment (CINOT) Program.

The CINOT program assists families without dental insurance and where the cost of the treatment would pose a financial hardship.

All children attending without their parent and/or guardian must have consent prior to the assessment.

WHO

Children under the age of 18.

WHY

The health of your gums, teeth and mouth are very important to your overall health.

Assessing a child’s teeth from a very early age creates an opportunity for parents, caregivers, and children to learn about oral health.
