Free dental clinic fills gap in Brighton

The doors to a free dental clinic in Brighton open at 5 a.m. Friday, but lines are expected to form long before then.

The two-day clinic, which concludes Saturday, is not taking appointments, Pereira said. It is giving free dental work, treating people on a first-come, first- served basis.

Dentists, dental hygienists and other medical professionals are volunteering their services for the event, called the Colorado Mission of Mercy.

SAN DIEGO — By opening her mouth wide and letting a dentist look inside, 5-year-old Donnisha Holloway met a state requirement to attend public school.

Under a 2007 law, children must have a dental checkup by May 31 of their first year in school.

Donnisha was among 123 children whose parents brought them to Rosa Parks Elementary School in San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood yesterday for free dental work — screenings held by Rady Children’s Hospital.

Most were from Latino and black families in low-income neighborhoods. All received required assessment forms that noted whether they have cavities and fillings or need to see a dentist right away.

Free Dental Clinic Opens Friday At 5 A.m.

BRIGHTON, Colo. — A free dental care clinic will open to the public Friday, Sept. 11 for two days only.

The clinic is being put on by Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM). It puts portable dental stations in a large public arena and dental screenings and other free dental work are provided at no charge to those who attend.

Volunteers with the Colorado Dental Association will provide free dental work.

Free dental checks for pets

PET owners can get a free dental check-up for their furry friends during Pet Smile Month this month.

During September, the de Montfort Veterinary Hospital at Merstow Green will be joining 1,500 other vets across the country to offer the free checks, as it is estimated that 80 per cent of cats and dogs over the age of three need dental treatment. As dental diseases progress, bacteria from the mouth can affect organs like the kidney and heart via the blood stream.
